It can be important for some companies to know which of their employees are involved in a publication. We conduct this systematic tracking of authors (publication tracking) on behalf of a pharmaceutical company.<\/p><\/blockquote><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2149 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/gimd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/GIMD_2012_RGB-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"B\u00fccherturm\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gimd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/GIMD_2012_RGB-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gimd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/GIMD_2012_RGB-768x496.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gimd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/GIMD_2012_RGB.jpg 788w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><p><strong>Project duration:<\/strong> ongoing<\/p><p>We already maintain a literature database for this customer, which contains a wealth of information. In addition, we have now been tasked with identifying all authors of research articles in this database who are also employees of this customer.<\/p><p>Research is teamwork, and scientific articles usually have a main author (corresponding author) and often a number of other contributing authors. Our database only contains the names of the first six authors and their work addresses; other authors are conventionally indicated by the abbreviation et al. (\u2018and others\u2019). We therefore check all authors and their work addresses for each article and identify and mark employees of the company in question.<\/p><p>The supplemented data can be linked to our clients other databases using the XML format and provide them with further information, such as the so-called impact (\u2018how often is the article cited?\u2019) or key opinion leaders in a particular field (see Newsletter 2016).
